Pula is about 11 km away and Medulin about 12 km by road. The area was already settled in the Bronze Age, and Banjole and Pomer are nearby.

Beaches and activities

Cape Kamenjak is known for its many secluded bays for swimming with or without a swimsuit, flat and steep shores and pebble beaches, some suitable for children. The sea here is very clear, with a turquoise colour unusual on the Istrian coast.

Depending on the wind, one side of the cape or the other offers ideal conditions for cliff jumping, swimming, snorkelling, sailing and surfing. Please note that currents at the cape can change very quickly and are often underestimated. Marinas and diving schools offer further water sports.

The landscape also has plenty for walkers and cyclists, with viewpoints and over 500 plant species, including around 30 orchids. To protect wildlife, private cars are only allowed in a few places on the cape, but paid car parks are easy to reach.

Sights and excursions

Several good restaurants, konobas and taverns serve local food and fish. In the village centre stands the church of St Lawrence, its patron saint. At Cape Grakalovac in the south of the peninsula you can see fossilised dinosaur footprints.

Many popular destinations are close by. Do not miss Pula with its Roman amphitheatre, Temple of Augustus, Arch of the Sergii, castle, cathedral and Archaeological Museum. Boats to the 14 islands of Brijuni National Park leave from Fažana; the largest, Veli Brijun, has hotels and a safari park.

Medulin has more history to offer: Roman summer villas and baths on the Vižula peninsula, a necropolis with several hundred graves nearby and the remains of Bronze and Iron Age forts at Kašteja and Vrčevan.

What should I know when driving to Premantura?

Through Austria and Slovenia you need a vignette in both countries (in Slovenia digital only); some Austrian tunnels charge an extra toll, such as the Tauern and Karawanken tunnels.
