Fortification, ruins
Fortičina is the ruin of a fortress near Omišalj on the island of Krk in the Kvarner Bay. Only remnants of the fortification survive, which are regarded as an archaeological site.

Nature park
Učka Nature Park covers the mountain massif of the same name in Istria near Rijeka and has been protected since 1999. Its highest peak is Vojak (1,401 m), with views to the islands of Cres and Krk and, on clear days, as far as Venice and the Italian Alps.

Church building
The Church of the Assumption (crkva Uznesenja Blažene Djevice Marije) stands in Osor on the island of Cres in the Kvarner Gulf. It was built in 1463 and is one of the notable buildings of this small town.

Parish church
The Župnijska cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja is a parish church near Kočičin in the Kvarner Bay. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, as its name indicates.
Many of our places are on the coast south-east of Rijeka, in villages such as Jadranovo, Dramalj, Selce, Novi Vinodolski and Klenovica. Pebble beaches and promenades are often just a few steps away, and the hillside behind the coast gives wide views across to the islands.
The bay includes the large islands of Krk, Cres, Lošinj and Rab. Krk is linked to the mainland by a bridge; the others are reached by ferry. On the western shore lies the historic seaside resort of Opatija.
The mountains begin soon after the coast. In the wooded Gorski kotar the Kupa river forms the border with Slovenia and is popular for swimming, canoeing and rafting, so sea and mountains combine easily in one holiday.

Through Austria and Slovenia you need a vignette in both countries (in Slovenia digital only); some Austrian tunnels charge an extra toll, such as the Tauern and Karawanken tunnels. In Croatia you pay the motorway toll per section at the toll booth, in cash or by card. Croatia has been part of the Schengen area since 2023 and uses the euro.

Kvarner Bay lies in the northern Adriatic between Istria and the Croatian mainland. For travellers from Central Europe it is the quickest part of the Croatian coast to reach. Most of our accommodation here are apartments with a sea view, and many of them welcome dogs.
