Fort Stoja

Fort Stoja is a fortress on the peninsula of the same name near Pula in Istria. Austria had it built in 1884 to protect the main harbour of its navy; it secured the southern approach to the harbour and the Brankora bay. A defensive ditch runs around the site, marked by numerous round concrete blocks. Later it was used by the Italian and Yugoslav militaries, among others; between 1974 and 1978 there was a restaurant and a discotheque on the site.
