About Sveti Petar u Šumi
The name Sveti Petar u Šumi means “St Peter in the Forest” and comes from the Benedictine monastery first recorded around 1174, which is well worth a visit. Unlike many Istrian towns that grew up around a hilltop church, the houses and farms here did not form around the church or monastery. People still live in hamlets or scattered along the fields, vineyards and red-earth karst valleys.
