Castle
The Tvrdalj is a fortified Renaissance estate in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar. In the 16th century, the poet Petar Hektorović (1487–1572) had his summer house extended to protect its inhabitants against Ottoman attacks.

The Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation (Gospe od Blagovijesti) stands in Milna on the island of Brač. The church building is registered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia.
Hvar, Brač, Korčula and Vis are among the best-known islands off the Dalmatian coast. Each has its own character, from lively harbour towns to quiet villages inland.
Most islands are reached by ferry, with many connections from Split. In high season it pays to plan the crossing early. A car is often useful on the island, as beaches and villages can be far apart. Summers are sunny and dry, and the sea is good for swimming from June to September.
